Why Libertarian?

"I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it." -- Dwight D. Eisenhower

The Libertarian Party is one of the youngest political parties in the United States, founded in 1971 as a result of the tumultuous 1960s and the encroaching restrictions by the government on people's rights and its increasing role in everyday life. It bases its morals on the Constitution, and prides itself on fiscally conservative and socially liberal policies.

Disenfranchised Democrats and Republicans can both look to Libertarianism as a credible political philosophy in which people are in control of their government and not the other way around. Our Founding Fathers designed the Constitution as a way to protect people's personal freedoms and liberties, and for government's role in society to never overreach its bounds.

There is literally something for everyone with Libertarianism. In fact, the more that Americans look into Libertarianism, the more Libertarian they realize they already are. It is a political philosophy as old as the Constitution, but as new as the Millennial Generation.

Socially Liberal -- A Belief in Personal Freedom and Liberty

-- Gay Marriage should be allowed and government should not dictate who can and cannot get married, as any law doing so would violate the First Amendment right to freedom of religion.

-- Marijuana and the hemp plant, once a very useful crop of the Founding Fathers and currently a marvel of medical science, should be decriminalized and legalized.

-- The federal government should allow states to legally lower the drinking age to 18 -- we've all heard it before -- if you're old enough to die for the country, then you’re old enough to buy yourself drink.

Fiscally Conservative -- A Belief in Limited Government

-- The Federal Government should not be in charge of national public services such as Medicare and Social Security -- for the government to take on this role at the federal level has proven to be too costly and inefficient.

-- The Federal Government should not spend more money than it brings in -- which is not a matter of raising taxes, but cutting the overall cost and size of government in the annual federal budget.

-- The government should not be wasting taxpayer dollars on domestic spying programs, which are then used on taxpayers, nor for expensive foreign wars thousands of miles away, in which new enemies are created by our unnecessary and brutal military force.
